I liked the story, since I love parallel universe stories like this (Chrono Cross > Trigger etc. ). I'm also intrigued by the connections to the Tenchi/Ryououki universe now. The mechas here, in GXP and in Seikishi are all very similar and they all appear in different parallel universes, so I hope some more information about that technology is revealed at some point in the future.
The harem here is typical Kajishima though. Like in all harems written by him, in the end everyone lives together and nothing about the love polygon gets resolved. In fact, it seems he used the same harem right down to the character designs and personalities again in GXP.

A Tenchi/Evangelion mash-up that's far from seamless and whose protagonist comes across as more unobservant and slow on the uptake than most. At first. Eventually he turns into your standard harem lead.
The Eva-like parts are mildly interesting at times while the Tenchi-like parts are... well, the standard harem sort of thing. At least until the 10th episode, which introduces a rare dynamic: Parallel world versions of the same girl both in the harem at the same time.
As far as 'reasons to watch this' go, I can't really think of any unless you desperately want to see another Tenchi iteration. Though I will say that the "countermeasures" used in the 4th episode to prevent the opposition from finding out that the new pilot is male are certainly something.

Basically, this is Eva through the Kajishima Harem Filter, or Kajishima going "why so serious" to much of the introspective, post-exploded economic bubble, mid-90's anime scene. It's not bad, for what it is. Not all that memorable, just entertaining in that Tenchi Muyo kind of way. Also, I like the op and ed themes. Have done for the 15 years since this show debuted.

In ep. 2 Sanada tells Yotsuga that she has already been in the parallel world for a month. Then who was the Sanada in the first world, since we're told that they can no more go back there? Then again, I've only seen two eps so far, so it may become clear later, but if not, can someone elucidate?

both of them disappeared from the 1st world at same time but one took longer time in journey thus reaching late in 2nd world.

Kajishima is (or was) great when mixing harem with adventure, spiced with ecchi and just a tiny slice of drama towards the end . Thats what made stuff like Photon, Tenchi Universe and 90s Tenchi OVAs good and memorable. Cant say the same about this sort of bland NGE ripoff. No charisma. No chemistry. And that out of place OST doesnt help any serious situation. Just play MuvLuv trilogy instead.
