Bring Me The Horizon kick off their First Love Tour down Australia’s East Coast tomorrow and we can’t wait to see what the guys will deliver on this trip alongside supportsYou Me At Six, Trophy Eyes and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.Their latest album amo(our review here) saw the band head in an almost unrecognisable direction from their earlier, heavy/metalcore roots, but unsurprisingly, one thing remained the same, their ability to pen catchy, thought-provoking lyrics. So, instead of counting down our favourite songs or music videos, we’re going to look at the words frontman Oli Sykesand co. have written/screamed/sung over the years and that we can’t wait to sing/scream back to him, so take a look at our Top 13 Bring Me The Horizon Lyrics

Need motivation? Play this song over and over again until the message sinks in and you get sh*t done.

Not gonna lie, when I first heard this song I hated it. It was constantly skipped every time I listened to the album through, but when our photographer Josh Ludlow mentioned the lyrics and how they threw back to BMTH‘s last album That’s The Spirit, I had to check it out. The song is about Oli finding out his wife had cheated on him and the throwback reference is for ‘Follow You‘ where he sang”

Fast forward a few years (and a bitter divorce), we’ve now got a “f*ck you” follow up/update to his feelings about that relationship. So it’s kinda/sorta a sequel in a way.

#11 – “Put a gun to my head and paint the walls with my brains” from ‘Alligator Blood’ (There Is a Hell,Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven,Let’s Keep It a Secret)

Brutal. Heavy. Visually disturbing yet direct to the point. Guaranteed many of us have screamed this at the top of our lungs as the song comes to a climax.

#10 – “For the love of god, will you bite your tongue/Before we make you swallow it” from ‘Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake’ (Sempiternal)

Lyrics dedicated to those mouth breathers in your life who just talk so much sh*t… so much so it causes you to get migraines just thinking about them. We all know one (or five).

#9 –“So how dare you/try and steal my flame/Just ’cause yours faded” from ‘True Friends’ (That’s The Spirit)

Got a workmate/classmate you just can’t stand? Someone who tried to take credit for something you worked your arse off doing? I do, and when this song came out I sang it so f*cking loud I hoped they heard it where they were (hundreds of kilometres away). I hope they read this too and realise it’s them I’m talking about…

#8 – “You say that you can save me/Don’t hope to ever find me/I fear I’m too far gone/Pray for the dead” from ‘Crucify Me’ (There Is a Hell,Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven,Let’s Keep It a Secret)

A hard-hitting song about giving up when times get too tough but with heavy as f*ck riffs throughout and synth that really kicked off the progression of their sound and serves to help you through those tough times. Remember you’re not alone and music has a soothing way of calming you, even in those most difficult moments of your life.

#7 – “And I keep picking petals/I’m afraid you don’t love me anymore/’Cause a kid on the ‘gram in a Black Dahlia tank/Says it ain’t heavy metal” from ‘heavy metal’ (amo)

A big “f*ck YOU” to the so-called old fans who criticised the band’s musical progression away from their heavier roots and to be honest, I have loved these lyrics from the first time I heard them. BMTH having the last laugh since 2004.

#6 – “So you can throw me to the wolves/tomorrow I will come back/Leader of the whole pack/Beat me black and blue/Every wound will shape me/Every scar will build my throne” from ‘Throne’ (That’s The Spirit)

Once again, a motivational as f*ck track guaranteed to get you moving and ready to take on the world and everything it throws at you. When this got airplay on commercial radio in Australia after it’s release, the band were unstoppable and proved they are key players in heavy music’s growth, development and fine examples of genre-crossing gone right.

#5 –“I may look happy, but honestly dear/The only way I’ll really smile is if you cut me ear to ear” from ‘Chelsea Smile’ (Suicide Season)

No doubt most of us were first introduced to the band via this guaranteed floor filler right here. Whether it be singing the opening lines of “I’ve got a secret/It’s on the tip of my tongue, it’s on the back of my lungs” or trying to scream the beautifully brutal screams throughout the rest of the track, this one was for the OGs who have followed the band since the early era.

#4 – “You can say I’m just a fool who stands for nothing/Well for that, I say you’re a c*nt” from ‘Antivist’ (Sempiternal)

When two big middle fingers just won’t do, scream this instead…

#3 –“Who will fix me now?/Dive in when I’m down?/Save me from myself/Don’t let me drown” from ‘Drown’ (That’s The Spirit)

We’ve all been there. Down and out, drowning in our own mental health issues and all we want/need is for someone to notice and throw us a helping hand to get out of it. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve played this on repeat during rough patches with my anxiety and depression, but one thing is for certain, whenever I play it, I know I’ll be fine and it won’t be long before I’m back again to my old self, even if it is momentary. Look after yourselves and those around you.

#2 – “THIS IS SANDPIT TURTLE” from ‘Shadow Moses’ (Sempiternal)

Those are the real lyrics. I know it. You know it. Accept it and sing it.

and the winner is…

For a song without any heavy breakdowns or bellowing screams, it managed to produce one of the greatest lyrics of all time which is both poetic and f*cked up in the same breath. Have you been in a toxic relationship/friendship where you were doing so much for the other person, only to constantly be shat on and treated like sh*t? And did you get the courage to leave that person with a big “get f*cked” on the way out? Well, chances are you thrashed this song on repeat not long after (if not, now you can). This is Bring Me The Horizon‘s progression at it’s absolute best musically, mentally and lyrically.

Warning: Obviously it goes without saying but please don’t do anything the song suggests. It’s more of a metaphor than a request.

So there you have it, TheTop 13 BMTH Lyrics that we love to sing/scream whenever we hear them. Was there something we missed or should have used instead? Don’t forget to tell us.
